About
Ferrari introduced the Mondial in 1980 as a mid-engine 2+2 built on a longer wheelbase than the 308 GTB, with Pininfarina styling and a transversely mounted V8 driving the rear wheels through a five-speed transaxle. The Quattrovalvole update followed for 1982, adding four-valve cylinder heads to the 2.9-liter V8, and the Cabriolet arrived for 1983, giving Ferrari an open four-seat model.
