About
The Renault 5 Turbo was conceived in the late 1970s specifically for Group B rally homologation. The connection to the standard Renault 5 was mostly cosmetic: the production hatchback donated its shell, doors, and windscreen, while the Turbo replaced everything behind the firewall with a mid-mounted engine and rear-wheel-drive transaxle, transforming a front-wheel-drive economy car into a purpose-built competition platform.
