The Porsche 993 is the last of the air-cooled 911s, and for a great many people, the best one ever made. Produced from 1994 to 1998, it was the swan song for a flat-six layout that had defined the 911 for 35 years, and Porsche made sure it went out swinging.

Designer Tony Hatter reshaped the car into something decidedly different from the classic 911 'shape' up to that point, & its beautiful, sleek proportions still look modern decades later. Underneath was the genuinely important bit: an all-new multi-link rear axle that finally civilized the 911's reputation for snapping into lift-off oversteer if you lost your nerve mid-corner. The air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six made 272 horsepower, climbing to 285 with the clever VarioRam intake. And the twin-turbocharged 993 Turbo — the first 911 Turbo with standard all-wheel drive — turned the 911 into a genuine supercar with its 408 horsepower & wide fender flares.

Whether you're a die-hard purist, a collector who watched values climb and wishes they'd bought sooner, or simply someone who thinks the 911 reached aesthetic perfection right here, the 993 is the end of an era worth chasing.
